HCMC – Demand for essential goods has increased on the second day of the Lunar New Year (Tet), with purchases concentrating on fresh food items, while prices remain largely stable and no supply shortages are reported.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s portal, shopping demand on the second day of Tet has rebounded after a subdued first day. Consumers focused on fresh vegetables, seafood, pork and beef to diversify meals following the holiday’s traditional dishes. Demand for fresh flowers and fruits for offerings is steady.
Overall prices are unchanged from pre-Tet levels. Supermarkets maintain listed prices and have launched early-year promotional programs. No cases of shortages or unreasonable price hikes have been recorded. From the 27th day of the 12th lunar month to the second day of Tet, the market has operated smoothly with balanced supply and demand.
Prices of some fresh food products have edged up by around 4-5%. Pork prices have increased by 5-15%, while rice prices have dropped by 12-15%. Seasonal flowers such as lilies, gladiolus and roses have picked up by 10-20% in line with seasonal patterns.
In the coming days, as retail systems fully reopen, market activity is expected to pick up, with no significant price fluctuations anticipated. Prices of catering services, offerings and parking at spiritual tourism sites may increase slightly due to higher holiday labor costs. Vegetable prices may also rise by 5-10% in the short term due to stronger demand.
However, with ample supply and stable distribution networks, the Tet market is expected to remain balanced and meet consumer demand ahead of the resumption of normal business activities.
