HCMC – HCMC authorities said today that fuel supply in the city has remained stable, with temporary shortages at some gas stations resulting from logistics issues or delivery cycles.
Speaking at a news briefing on the city’s socioeconomic situation on March 12, Tran Trung Hieu, deputy head of the Energy Management Division at the HCMC Department of Industry and Trade, said reports from fuel wholesalers, distributors and market surveillance forces showed that fuel supply across the city is basically secured.
Gas stations and cooking-gas businesses are operating as usual and continue to meet production and consumption demand from residents and businesses.
According to the department, some gas stations experienced temporary shortages of certain fuel products due to logistics issues or delivery schedules. However, wholesalers and distributors have arranged tanker trucks and replenished supplies within a short time, without affecting overall supply in the city.
Fuel wholesalers and distributors have also committed to maintaining stable supply for their retail networks and agents in the coming period.
The Department of Industry and Trade will continue coordinating with relevant agencies, including the Department of Construction, Customs Sub-Department Region II, and the municipal police, to support energy firms in supply coordination and facilitate fuel and gas transport and imports.
Separately, Tran Xuan Phuong, deputy head of the Fire Prevention, Fighting and Rescue Police Division (PC07) under the HCMC Police, said some residents have recently been buying fuel in large containers to store at home or for resale due to concerns over potential price increases.
Authorities recorded cases where people refueled their motorcycles, went home to siphon the fuel out and returned to the gas station. Police warned that such practices pose a high risk of fire and explosion, particularly in residential areas.
The police advised residents to purchase only the amount of fuel needed and avoid storing large volumes of gasoline at home. Fuels should not be kept in living areas, basements or near emergency exits.
If storage is necessary, it should be in a separate, well-ventilated area away from heat sources, flames and electrical equipment. Residents are also advised not to transfer fuel into unsafe containers or allow children near stored fuel.
