Gold and dollar edge higher

HCMC – Domestic gold prices increased on February 25, a day prior to the God of Wealth Day, with SJC-branded gold bars and gold rings reaching VND185.3 million per tael, while the central foreign exchange rate rose by VND4.

At 9:15 a.m., Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC), DOJI Group and Phu Quy Jewelry quoted SJC gold bars at VND182.3 million for buying and VND185.3 million for selling, up VND700,000 per tael from the February 24 close.

Bao Tin Minh Chau listed gold rings at VND182.3 million for buying and VND185.3 million for selling, up VND500,000 per tael. Phu Quy quoted gold rings at VND181.8 million and VND184.8 million, respectively, up VND200,000 per tael from the previous close. The buy-sell spread remained at VND3 million per tael.

In the global market, gold traded at around US$5,189 per ounce, equivalent to about VND164.4 million per tael based on Vietcombank’s exchange rate, around VND20.9 million lower than domestic SJC gold.

Domestic silver prices also increased on the morning of February 25, with selling prices at around VND91 million per kilogram.

Ancarat Vietnam quoted silver at VND3.303 million per tael for buying and VND3.405 million for selling, both up VND13,000 from February 24. For kilogram bars, the company listed buying and selling prices at VND88.08 million and VND90.8 million, respectively, up VND347,000.

Phu Quy listed silver at VND3.327 million per tael for buying and VND3.430 million for selling, up VND28,000 and VND29,000, respectively. Its kilogram prices were VND88.719 million for buying and VND91.466 million for selling, up VND746,000 and VND773,000.

DOJI quoted silver at VND3.337 million per tael for buying and VND3.440 million for selling, up VND28,000 and VND29,000, respectively. For kilogram bars, DOJI listed buying and selling prices at VND88.869 million and VND91.616 million, up VND746,000 and VND773,000 from the previous close.

DOJI officially launched its silver accumulation product, Ngan Bao DOJI, in one-tael and five-tael versions from February 24. The product is available at more than 20 locations in Hanoi and three outlets in HCMC, with plans to expand to Danang, Haiphong and other cities. Customers can trade directly at DOJI centers or via the eGold application.

Globally, spot silver stood at US$88.23 per ounce at 8:43 a.m. Hanoi time, up 1.39% from the previous close and below the peak of over US$121 per ounce recorded on January 29.

Meanwhile, the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) set the central exchange rate at VND25,057 per dollar, up VND4 from February 24. Vietcombank quoted the greenback at VND25,959-26,309 (buy/sell), VietinBank at VND25,995-26,309, BIDV at VND26,013-26,309, up VND85, and Eximbank at VND25,990-26,309.
