HCMC – Domestic gold prices increased on the morning of March 10, with SJC-branded gold bars rising by VND1.4 million per tael from the close on March 9, while the U.S. dollar at commercial banks edged up by VND4 against the Vietnamese dong.
At 9:30 a.m., Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC), DOJI, and Phu Quy quoted their SJC-branded gold bar prices at VND182.5 million per tael for buying and VND185.5 million per tael for selling, up by VND1.4 million from the March 9 close.
Gold ring prices also moved higher. Bao Tin Minh Chau listed gold ring prices at VND182.7 million per tael for buying and VND185.7 million per tael for selling, up by VND1.2 million from the close on March 9. Phu Quy quoted gold ring prices at VND182.5 million per tael for buying and VND185.5 million per tael for selling, up VND1.4 million from the previous session.
The spread between buying and selling prices stayed at around VND3 million per tael. Gold rings were around VND200,000 per tael higher than SJC-branded gold bars.
Globally, gold traded at around US$5,178 per ounce, down US$50 from the same time in the previous session. The price is equivalent to about VND164.1 million per tael when converted using the U.S. dollar exchange rate at Vietcombank. Global gold was still around VND21.4 million per tael lower than SJC-branded gold in Vietnam.
Silver prices also increased in the domestic market. At 9:06 a.m., Ancarat quoted silver at VND3.33 million per tael for buying and over VND3.44 million per tael for selling, up VND209,000 and VND225,000 from the close on March 9. Silver traded at VND88.8 million per kilogram for buying and VND91.547 million per kilogram for selling, up by over VND5.57 million and more than VND5.73 million.
Phu Quy listed silver at about VND3.35 million per tael for buying and around VND3.45 million per tael for selling at 9:12 a.m., up VND222,000 and VND228,000 from the close on March 9. Silver traded at VND89.23 million per kilogram for buying and VND91.97 million per kilogram for selling, up VND5.92 million and VND6.08 million.
At DOJI, silver was quoted at VND3.36 million per tael for buying and VND3.47 million per tael for selling at 9:14 a.m., up VND224,000 and VND231,000 from the close on March 9.
Globally, spot silver traded at US$89.35 per ounce at 9:19 a.m. Vietnam time, up 2.8% from the previous session’s close.
On the same morning, the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) set the central foreign exchange rate at VND25,059 per U.S. dollar, unchanged from March 9.
At commercial banks, the U.S. dollar moved higher. Vietcombank quoted the greenback at VND26,025 for buying and VND26,315 for selling, up VND4 from the close on March 9. VietinBank listed the dollar at VND26,060 for buying and VND26,315 for selling, also up VND4.
BIDV quoted the dollar at VND26,055 for buying and VND26,315 for selling, while Eximbank listed VND26,050 for buying and VND26,315 for selling, both up VND4 from the previous session.
