Gold bar prices soar to record highs

HCMC – Gold prices surged this morning, August 21, with gold bars at some jewelry firms climbing by VND600,000 to VND125.4 million per tael on the selling side, the highest level ever seen in the domestic market.

At around 9 a.m. on August 21, several retailers such as DOJI and Bao Tin Minh Chau raised gold bar prices by VND600,000 per tael on both buying and selling sides compared to yesterday’s close.

The listed price now stands at VND124.4-125.4 million per tael, marking a new record high.

Phu Quy Jewelry also raised its gold bar buying and selling prices by VND600,000 per tael to VND123.4 million and VND125.4 million, respectively. Meanwhile, SJC kept its prices unchanged from yesterday at VND123.8-124.8 million per tael.

As for the gold ring market, Bao Tin Minh Chau quoted buying and selling prices at VND117.5–120.5 million per tael, up VND300,000 on both sides.

At Phu Quy, the prices stood at VND117 million per tael for buying and VND120 million per tael for selling. SJC listed gold rings at VND117.3-119.8 million per tael, up VND500,000 on each side.

On the global market, VNA reported that gold prices rose in the August 20 trading session.

At 1:23 a.m. on August 21 (Vietnam time), spot gold gained 0.9% to reach US$3,344.37 per ounce after hitting its lowest level since August 1. U.S. gold futures also climbed 0.9% to close at US$3,388.5 per ounce.
