HCMC – Domestic gold prices fell sharply on the morning of March 6, with SJC-branded gold quoted at VND180.8 million per tael for buying and VND183.8 million per tael for selling, down VND900,000 per tael from the close on March 5.
As of 9:30 a.m., Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC), Doji, and Phu Quy listed SJC-branded gold at VND180.8 million per tael for buying and VND183.8 million per tael for selling, down VND900,000 per tael from the close on March 5.
Gold ring prices also declined. Bao Tin Minh Chau quoted gold rings at VND180.8 million per tael for buying and VND183.8 million per tael for selling, down VND800,000 per tael from the previous session, while Phu Quy listed the same product at VND180.8 million per tael for buying and VND183.8 million per tael for selling, down VND900,000 per tael from the close on March 5.
In the global market, gold traded at around US$5,130 per ounce, down US$50 per ounce compared with the previous session. The price is equivalent to about VND162.7 million per tael when converted at the exchange rate quoted by Vietcombank. Global gold remains about VND21 million per tael lower than the domestic SJC price.
Domestic silver prices also declined on March 6 after rising in the previous session. In the local market, silver was quoted at VND2,665,000 per tael for buying and VND2,695,000 per tael for selling, down from the previous session.
At Phu Quy, silver was listed at VND3,169,000 per tael for buying and VND3,267,000 per tael for selling. At other trading locations in Hanoi, silver was quoted at VND2,665,000 per tael for buying and VND2,695,000 per tael for selling, while in HCMC the metal was listed at VND2,667,000 per tael for buying and VND2,701,000 per tael for selling.
In the global market, silver traded at around VND2,172,000 per ounce for buying and VND2,177,000 per ounce for selling, lower than the previous session.
On the same morning, the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) set the central exchange rate at VND25,057 per U.S. dollar on March 6, up VND2 from the close on March 5.
At commercial banks, Vietcombank quoted the U.S. dollar at VND25,999 for buying and VND26,309 for selling, up VND2 from the previous session. VietinBank listed the dollar at VND26,032 for buying and VND26,309 for selling, also up VND2 from the close on March 5.
Meanwhile, BIDV traded the dollar at VND26,029 for buying and VND26,309 for selling, up VND2, while Eximbank quoted VND26,020 for buying and VND26,309 for selling, up VND2 from the close on March 4.
