HCMC – Domestic gold prices fell further on the morning of March 14, with SJC-branded gold bars dropping by VND2.2 million per tael from the close on March 13, while the U.S. dollar at commercial banks remained at high levels against the Vietnamese dong.
At the same time, Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) quoted SJC-branded gold bars at VND179.6 million per tael for buying and VND182.6 million for selling, down VND2.2 million from the previous session. The decline marked the third consecutive day of losses, bringing the cumulative drop to VND4.6 million per tael.
Gold rings also declined by VND2.2 million to VND179.3 million per tael for buying and VND182.3 million for selling.
Phu Nhuan Jewelry (PNJ) listed gold rings at VND179.6 million per tael for buying and VND182.6 million for selling, down VND2.2 million from the close on March 13. DOJI also quoted gold rings at VND179.6 million for buying and VND182.6 million for selling after a similar drop.
Globally, gold traded at around US$5,017.7 per ounce, down nearly US$100 from the same time in the previous session.
At commercial banks, the dollar remained near the upper band. Vietcombank quoted the greenback at VND26,048–26,078 for buying and VND26,318 for selling. ACB listed the dollar at VND26,080–26,110 for buying and VND26,318 for selling, while VietinBank quoted the currency at VND26,093 for buying and VND26,318 for selling. Banks maintained a spread of around VND240–270 between buying and selling prices.
