HCMC – Domestic gold prices remained high on February 24, the eighth day of the Lunar New Year, while global prices declined, widening the gap to nearly VND22 million per tael.
Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) and Phu Quy Jewelry quoted SJC gold bars at VND181.6 million per tael for buying and VND184.6 million for selling. ACB listed buying and selling prices at VND182 million and VND184.6 million, respectively. Mi Hong reduced its buying price by VND400,000 to VND182.6 million per tael, while keeping the selling price unchanged at VND184.6 million.
Gold ring prices were unchanged. SJC quoted gold rings at VND181.1 million for buying and VND184.1 million for selling. Phu Quy listed VND181.6 million and VND184.6 million, respectively.
Domestic gold showed little change during the holiday despite a sharp decline in global prices, making it nearly VND21-22 million per tael higher than the global equivalent.
Globally, gold fell from US$5,230 per ounce to US$5,152, down US$79 or 1.5%. Iran and the U.S. are scheduled to hold a third round of nuclear talks in Geneva on March 26.
In the domestic silver market, prices edged up on the morning of February 24.
Ancarat Vietnam quoted silver at VND3.244 million per tael for buying and VND3.344 million for selling, and VND86.507 million per kilogram for buying and VND89.173 million for selling at 8:41 a.m., up VND16,000 per tael and VND426,000-427,000 per kilogram from February 23.
Phu Quy listed silver at VND3.24 million for buying and VND3.34 million for selling per tael, and VND86.399 million and VND89.066 million per kilogram, respectively, up VND2,000 per tael and VND53,000 per kilogram from the previous close.
DOJI quoted its silver at VND3.25 million per tael for buying and VND3.35 million for selling, and VND86.549 million and VND89.216 million per kilogram at 8:40 a.m., with increases of VND12,000-38,000 per tael and VND53,000 per kilogram compared to earlier in the morning.
On the same morning, the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) set the central foreign exchange rate at VND25,053 per dollar on February 24, up VND2 from the previous day. Vietcombank raised its transfer buying rate by VND130 to VND25,920 and its selling rate to VND26,300. ACB increased its transfer buying rate by VND140 to VND25,930 and its selling rate to VND26,290.
