HCMC – Domestic gold prices held steady this morning, September 22, with gold bars quoted at VND133 million per tael on the selling side, while the U.S. dollar inched up slightly at local banks.
As of 9:30 a.m., Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) and DOJI listed their gold bar prices at VND131 million for buying and VND133 million for selling.
Bao Tin Minh Chau quoted both gold bars and gold rings at VND127.2-130.2 million per tael, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
SJC listed gold rings at VND126.8-129.5 million per tael, while DOJI posted similar levels at VND126.8-129.8 million per tael.
On the global market, spot gold rose 0.8% to US$3,672.08 per ounce at 12:36 a.m. on September 20 (Vietnam time). For the week, gold gained 0.8%. December gold futures added 0.7% to settle at US$3,705.8 per ounce.
As for the foreign exchange market, at 8:40 a.m. today, the central exchange rate set by the State Bank of Vietnam edged up by VND3 from the weekend to VND25,189 per U.S. dollar.
Within the 5% trading band, the ceiling rate today is VND26,448 and the floor rate is VND23,930. The central bank’s transaction office listed the reference rate at VND23,977 for buying and VND26,395 for selling.
Vietcombank quoted the dollar at VND26,208 for buying and VND26,448 for selling, up VND23 and VND3 from September 19, respectively. At BIDV, the greenback dropped VND5 on the buying side but rose VND3 on the selling side, standing at VND26,200-26,448.
