HCMC – Domestic gold prices surged this morning, February 23, in line with global gains, with SJC-branded gold bars and gold rings climbing above VND184 million per tael after the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.
Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) and Phu Quy Jewelry quoted SJC-branded gold bars at VND181.6 million for buying and VND184.6 million for selling, up VND3.6 million per tael compared to the February 22 close. DOJI Group listed SJC gold at the same levels, marking an increase of VND5.6 million per tael against the February 13 close before the Lunar New Year holiday.
Gold ring prices also edged higher. Bao Tin Minh Chau quoted gold rings at VND181.6 million per tael for buying and VND184.6 million for selling, up VND2.1 million from February 22. Phu Quy listed gold rings at VND181.5 million and VND184.5 million, respectively, up VND3.5 million from the previous close on February 22.
In the global market, gold traded at around US$5,176 per ounce, equivalent to about VND163.3 million per tael based on Vietcombank’s exchange rate. The global price remained VND21.3 million per tael lower than the domestic SJC brand.
Meanwhile, the State Bank of Vietnam set the central foreign exchange rate at VND25,051 per dollar, up VND2 from the February 13 close before the Tet holiday. Commercial banks raised their U.S. dollar quotations by VND20-45.
Vietcombank quoted the dollar at VND25,790 for buying and VND26,200 for selling, up VND40 from February 13. VietinBank listed VND25,810 and VND26,190, up VND45. BIDV quoted VND25,790 and VND26,160, up VND10, while Eximbank listed VND25,790 and VND26,180, up VND20 from the pre-Tet close.
