Gold prices rise further, U.S. dollar edges down

HCMC – Domestic gold prices extended their rally on October 8, soaring by VND2 million per tael and reaching VND142.5 million on the selling side.

As of 02:00 p.m., Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) quoted gold bars at VND140.5 million for buying and VND142.5 million for selling, up nearly VND2 million from the previous day and VND500,000 higher than this morning’s session.

Gold ring prices also moved higher. SJC listed its gold ring prices at VND136.8 million for buying and VND139.5 million for selling, while Bao Tin Minh Chau listed them at VND138.2 million for buying and VND141.2 million for selling.

On the global market, gold was traded at around US$4,030 per ounce, equivalent to roughly VND128 million per tael based on Vietcombank’s exchange rate. The domestic gold price currently exceeds the global rate by over VND14 million per tael.

The State Bank of Vietnam this morning set the central exchange rate at VND25,133 per U.S. dollar, down eight dong from the previous day.

Within the trading band of 5% on either side of the central rate, Vietcombank quoted the greenback at VND26,139–26,389 per dollar (buy/sell). VietinBank offered similar rates at VND26,179–26,389, while BIDV listed VND26,175–26,389 and Eximbank posted VND26,150–26,389 per dollar.
