Gold prices steady, dollar edges up slightly

HCMC – Domestic gold prices remained unchanged on November 7, with SJC-branded gold holding firm at VND148.4 million per tael, while the central exchange rate inched up by three dong against the U.S. dollar.

At 10 a.m., Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) and Doji quoted gold bar prices at VND146.4 million for buying and VND148.4 million for selling, unchanged from late November 6. Phu Quy Jewelry also kept both its SJC and ring gold prices steady at VND145.4 million for buying and VND148.4 million for selling per tael.

Bao Tin Minh Chau listed its gold prices at VND145.8 million for buying and VND148.8 million for selling, remaining VND400,000 higher than SJC gold.

Despite the stable trend, the buy-sell spread stayed wide, ranging from VND2–3 million per tael for SJC gold and around VND3 million for ring gold.

On the global market, gold was traded at around US$3,996 per ounce, equivalent to approximately VND126.9 million per tael based on Vietcombank’s exchange rate. Domestic SJC gold thus remained around VND21.5 million per tael higher than global prices.

This morning, the State Bank of Vietnam set the central exchange rate at VND25,103 per U.S. dollar, up three dong from the previous day. Commercial banks followed suit, adjusting their rates slightly higher.

Within the trading band of 5% on either side of the central exchange rate, Vietcombank quoted the greenback at VND26,088–26,358 (buy/sell), VietinBank at VND26,109–26,358, BIDV at VND26,118–26,358, and Eximbank at VND26,100–26,358 per dollar.
