HCMC – Domestic gold prices edged up on the morning of March 18, with SJC-branded gold bars rising by VND400,000 per tael from the beginning of the week, while the U.S. dollar at commercial banks was largely unchanged or slipped slightly against the Vietnamese dong.
Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) quoted SJC-branded gold bars at VND180 million per tael for buying and VND183 million for selling, unchanged from the previous session. ACB listed the yellow metal at VND181 million for buying and VND183 million for selling, also steady. Mi Hong quoted the buying price at VND181 million and the selling price at VND183 million, up VND400,000 per tael from the start of the week, while Phu Quy listed prices at VND180 million for buying and VND183 million for selling.
Gold rings remained unchanged. Phu Quy quoted gold rings at VND179.8 million per tael for buying and VND182.8 million for selling, while SJC listed them at VND179.7 million and VND182.7 million, respectively. The spread between buying and selling prices stayed at around VND2–3 million per tael.
Globally, gold traded at around US$5,015 per ounce, up US$8 from the same time in the previous session.
Domestic silver prices fell on the morning of March 18. Ancarat quoted its silver at VND2.95 million per tael for buying and VND3.04 million for selling, down VND110,000 on both sides from the previous session. The buying–selling spread remained at VND90,000 per tael.
Ancarat also listed silver bars at VND78.74 million per kilogram for buying and VND81.17 million for selling, down VND2.86 million and VND2.96 million, respectively, from the previous session. The spread narrowed to VND2.43 million per kilogram.
Phu Quy quoted 999 silver at VND2.95 million per tael for buying and VND3.04 million for selling, down VND100,000 on both sides. Silver bars were listed at VND78.77 million per kilogram for buying and VND81.19 million for selling, down VND2.69 million and VND2.78 million, respectively.
Globally, silver traded at around US$78.75 per ounce, down US$2.85 from the same time in the previous session.
On the same morning, the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) set the central foreign exchange rate at VND25,067 per U.S. dollar, down VND1 from the previous day.
At commercial banks, the U.S. dollar edged down. Vietcombank quoted the greenback at VND26,080 for buying and VND26,320 for selling, down VND1 from the previous session. ACB listed the dollar at VND26,110 for buying and VND26,320 for selling, with the selling rate down VND1.
