HCMC – Mai Tien Dung, former chairman of the Government Office, along with several former officials from Lam Dong Province and the Government Inspectorate, is facing prosecution for alleged violations in connection with the Dai Ninh case.
The Investigative Police Agency (C03) under the Ministry of Public Security has made an investigation conclusion on the case of bribery and abuse of position and power while performing official duties occurring in Lam Dong Province and several related localities.
Along with two other individuals, Mai Tien Dung, who was also member of the Party Central Committee, is facing charges of abuse of position and power while performing official duties. He is accused of assisting Saigon Dai Ninh Company with a project in Lam Dong and subsequently receiving VND200 million from the firm.
Six individuals are facing charges for receiving bribes, including Tran Duc Quan, former secretary of the Party Committee of Lam Dong; Tran Van Hiep, former chairman of the provincial People’s Committee; and four former officials at the Government Inspectorate.
Nguyen Cao Tri, general director of Saigon Dai Ninh Company, has been recommended for prosecution for giving bribes.
According to the investigation’s findings, in 2010, Saigon Dai Ninh Company was permitted to carry out the Dai Ninh Commercial, Tourism, and Ecological Resort Urban Area project in Lam Dong.
However, the Government Inspectorate later detected numerous violations by the company during the project’s implementation and recommended that the Prime Minister instruct the provincial government to terminate the project and reclaim the land.
Given the situation, Tri managed to bribe individuals at the Government Office, the Government Inspectorate, and the local authorities to take the Dai Ninh project back.
As a result, individuals within the Government Inspectorate engaged in unlawful actions by issuing a new report that revoked the recommendation to cancel the Dai Ninh project. Local officials then agreed to transfer the project to Tri and subsequently consenting not to reclaim the project.
Following a series of violations by the defendants, the project’s timeline was extended. Tri subsequently sold the project to Thien Vuong Real Estate Investment and Development Company, profiting VND2,700 billion. Meanwhile, the State was unable to recover 3,595 hectares of land, leading to a significant waste of land resources.
