HCMC – Mai Tien Dung, former Minister and Chairman of the Government Office, received a warning from the Government due to his shortcomings while on duty.

On behalf of the Government, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang signed a decision imposing disciplinary action against Dung.

He was earlier disciplined by the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee, with effect from January 14 this year, for his responsibility for the arrangement of repatriation flights for Vietnamese citizens during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Secretariat of the Party Central Committee concluded that Dung violated the principle of democratic centralism and working rules; showed dereliction of duty for the arrangement of Covid-19 repatriation flights, thereby letting a number of Government Office officials make proposals over the issue not in line with the prime minister’s direction, accept bribes and face legal action.

His violations caused serious consequences and affected the prestige of the Party and State organizations.

On March 9, Deputy PM Quang also signed a decision relieving Nguyen Van Trinh, ex-assistant to former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, from his post due to violations while on duty, with effect from December 21, 2022.

Trinh was earlier expelled from the Party due to degradation of morality and lifestyle, taking bribes and violations of regulations and the don’ts for Party members. On November 30, 2022, Trinh was detained on allegations that he had influenced the Ministry of Health’s decision to issue a registration number for Viet A Technology Corporation’s Covid-19 test kits.
