Green growth practices highlighted at GEFE 2024 Nordic Day

HCMC – GEFE 2024 Nordic Day kicked off this morning as part of the Green Energy Forum and Exhibition (GEFE) 2024, with a focus on sustainable development and green growth practices from the Nordic region while promoting collaboration with Vietnam.

Supported by the Nordic Council of Ministers, the event featured four sessions on important topics, including energy transition, circular economy, sustainable food systems, and youth engagement in climate action.

Knowledge and experiences from speakers from Vietnam and Nordic countries were shared during the four sessions, inspiring actions and efforts from relevant stakeholders to achieve a greener future.

Along with an interactive exhibition showcasing Nordic achievements in green innovation, GEFE 2024 Nordic Day – Getting to Green featured panel discussions that offered participants an opportunity to connect with industry leaders, policymakers, and advocates for green growth.

According to Ambassador of Denmark Nicolai Prytz, the green energy transition is a prerequisite for the transformation of other sectors, such as transport and industry, and key to a low carbon economy. By sharing experiences, particularly vision, policy and incentive models, Nordic countries can support Vietnam in its journey towards climate neutrality and prosperity.

Speaking with The Saigon Times, he said that Vietnam and Nordic countries, particularly Denmark, can collaborate across multiple sectors to accelerate green growth and that beyond government partnerships, the private sector plays a pivotal role in advancing the green transition.

GEFE 2024 Nordic Day is held as part of the Green Energy Forum and Exhibition (GEFE) 2024, which lasts from October 21 to October 23, at Thiskyhall Sala at 10 Mai Chi Tho Street, Thu Duc City, HCMC.

GEFE 2024 features over 200 exhibitors and 13 country pavilions, offering attendees chances to explore state-of-the-art green technologies and initiatives. A standout feature of the event includes over 30 discussion sessions on 10 green-themed topics, along with a prominent high-level opening session.

Among those, BASF, a leading chemical company from Germany, presented the topic “Designed for circular economy – How do we make products circular”, with valuable insights into the initiatives to enhance circularity in its products and processes.

Speaking with The Saigon Times, Erick Contreras, managing director of BASF Vietnam, said that BASF is aligning its strategies with Vietnam’s net-zero emissions objectives by promoting mechanical recycling, leveraging biomass, supporting sustainable agriculture, and embracing a variety of innovative solutions.
