HCMC – Vietnam’s state budget revenue from import and export activities totaled VND222.7 trillion in the first half of 2025, up 10.3% from a year earlier, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

The revenue accounts for 54.2% of the annual target. The country’s total import and export value in the January-June period was estimated at US$431.49 billion, a 16% over the same period last year.

Exports rose 14.2% year-on-year while imports climbed 17.9%, resulting in a trade surplus of US$7.19 billion. The surplus was down 40.6% compared to the same period last year.

Customs authorities reported 8,561 violations of customs law in the six-month period. The value of seized goods was estimated at VND13.6 trillion, with nearly VND461.4 billion collected for the state budget.

Eight cases were prosecuted and 54 others were transferred to relevant agencies for further legal action.

Authorities said smuggling and illegal trade of fuel, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, tobacco, narcotics, and counterfeit goods remained widespread. Cross-border drug and gold trafficking via air routes is increasing, with smugglers using more sophisticated methods.
