HCMC – The 10th annual Halong Bay Heritage Marathon, held recently in Halong City in the northern province of Quang Ninh, attracted a record-breaking 13,500 runners from 55 countries and territories.
The event featured distances of 5km, 10km, half marathon, and full marathon. The backdrop of UNESCO-listed Halong Bay provided a picturesque setting for participants as they raced along the coastal roads and through a 235-meter tunnel in Quang Ninh Province.
The event not only promotes physical health but also boosts the local economy and tourism, said Nguyen Thanh Tung, deputy director of the Quang Ninh Department of Culture and Sports.
The marathon, recognized by Runner’s World UK and the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), served as the grand finale for the 24th AIMS World Congress, marking the first time the event has been held in Vietnam.
The congress brought together international running experts and enthusiasts to discuss the future of the sport.
