HCMC – Hanoi City’s Department of Planning and Architecture has put forward plans for social housing development at nine new locations with a combined area of over 600 hectares.

These sites are in Chuong My, Quoc Oai, Ha Dong, Thanh Tri, Thuong Tin, Dan Phuong, Dong Anh, Gia Lam, and Me Linh districts.

The department is currently gathering information on these locations, and considering five to six more sites, thus expanding the total area for social housing development to between 1,000 and 1,500 hectares.

To speed up social home construction, Hanoi City aims to streamline procedures for investment , land acquisition and administrative paperwork.

From 2021 to 2025, Hanoi City plans to get five social housing projects off the ground, covering 272.45 hectares and supplying around 1.2 million square meters of residential space.

Detailed planning approvals have been granted for two projects in Tien Duong Commune, Dong Anh District. These include the Greenlink City project with around 3,200 units, and a new urban area project with approximately 3,000 units.

Despite these efforts, Hanoi City’s current targets for social housing construction fall short of the demand. By 2025, the city wants to complete three projects with 1,700 units, addressing only 9% of the housing needs for low-income workers.

The central Government has asked Hanoi City to deliver 18,700 condo units by 2025 under its initiative to develop at least one million social homes for low-income people and factory workers from 2021 to 2030.
