HCMC – Ethiopian Airlines has inaugurated a new direct route linking Hanoi and Addis Ababa, marking the first air service between Vietnam and Africa.
Flight ET0678 landed safely at Noi Bai International Airport at 1:14 p.m. on July 11, reported the Government news website (baochinhphu.vn).
The new route, operated four times per week using Boeing 787-800 wide-body aircraft, is expected to significantly reduce travel time and strengthen strategic connectivity between Southeast Asia and Africa.
Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, deputy director of Noi Bai International Airport, said the direct flight not only facilitates passenger travel but also promotes cultural exchange and economic cooperation between the two regions.
Addis Ababa, home to the African Union headquarters, serves as a major aviation hub. The route enables seamless access to Ethiopian Airlines’ extensive network across Africa, Europe, and the Americas.
The launch is expected to enhance Hanoi’s role as a key intercontinental gateway in Southeast Asia, diversify Vietnam’s air connectivity, and improve the country’s competitiveness in global aviation.
