HCMC – Hanoi City has recorded 29 COVID-19 cases so far this year, with no fatalities reported, according to the Hanoi Center for Disease Control.
From March 20 to 27, the city logged 17 new cases across 12 wards and communes, up from three cases in three wards the previous week.
Health officials said the BA.3.2 variant of SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for the Covid-19 pandemic that claimed millions of lives worldwide, is currently under monitoring, while urging the public not to panic.
According to the World Health Organization, BA.3.2 was first identified in South Africa on November 22, 2024. Current data indicate that the variant shows some changes in antigenic properties and immune evasion in laboratory conditions.
However, there is currently no evidence that the variant increases disease severity, hospitalizations or deaths. The WHO also noted that existing Covid-19 vaccines remain effective in preventing severe illness and fatalities.
Hanoi’s health sector continues to urge residents to stay vigilant without overreacting to information about the BA.3.2 variant.
