HCMC — The Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade has proposed forming an inter-agency working group and a technical advisory team to fast-track the development of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in the city.
The proposal was made during a strategic planning session between the department and EVNHANOI on July 21, a subsidiary of Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), aiming to align technical and investment approaches for building EV charging stations, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
At the meeting, the department’s director emphasized the need for coordination on timelines, site planning, power sources, and grid access to ensure rapid deployment of charging stations.
Nguyen Danh Duyen, chairman of EVNHANOI’s members council, said the utility company will adjust power infrastructure based on location data and planning support from the department. This data will guide investment and power supply planning across project phases.
Meanwhile, EVNHANOI is advancing the implementation of Decree 58/2025/ND-CP on rooftop solar under a self-production, self-consumption model. The move aims to reduce grid pressure by enabling users to generate their power for EV charging. Large-scale battery storage projects and new 220-kV and 110-kV substations will serve as the backbone of Hanoi’s future power supply system.
In the first half of 2025, nearly 230 customers in the city signed power purchase agreements for EV charging purposes, involving 239 metering points with a combined capacity exceeding 78,000 kW. Among these, 234 were private charging poles and five were bus charging stations.
