HCMC – Vehicles are not allowed to enter 10 streets in downtown HCMC this evening, December 31, due to the city’s New Year’s Eve celebrations, said the HCMC Department of Transport.

The city will hold two 15-minute fireworks shows starting from midnight at two locations: the Saigon River Tunnel area in Thu Duc City and Dam Sen Park in District 11. A music performance to ring in the New Year will also be held at the Saigon River Tunnel area, the local media reported.

For traffic safety during the celebrations, vehicles will be banned from entering Nguyen Hue pedestrian street and other roads leading to the pedestrian street between 6 p.m. on December 31 and 12:30 a.m. on January 1.

In addition, from 8 p.m. on December 31 till midnight, the city will ban vehicles from entering some sections of seven streets in District 1, comprising Ton Duc Thang, Dong Khoi, Hai Trieu, Ham Nghi, Vo Van Kiet, Ho Huan Nghiep and Ngo Duc Ke.

In District 4, which borders District 1, vehicles are not permitted to travel onto Nguyen Tat Thanh and Ben Van Don streets during the given period. They are also banned from using the Thu Thiem 2 Bridge, which links Thu Duc City with District 1.

The municipal Transport Department asked local people not to stop or park their vehicles on bridges to watch fireworks displays.
