HCMC – Customs officials at HCMC’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport have recently seized 1,078 diamonds smuggled by foreign nationals in two separate incidents, local news reports said today, October 30.
On October 25, authorities discovered 362 diamonds hidden in the luggage of an Indian passenger arriving from Hong Kong. The diamonds were concealed beneath layers of candy boxes and disguised as ordinary sweets.
Two days earlier, officials intercepted another Indian national arriving from India with 716 diamonds concealed in his belongings. The diamonds are valued at tens of billions of Vietnamese dong.
The suspects reportedly intended to sell the diamonds to local jewelry stores, authorities said. HCMC’s economic police are investigating both cases.
