HCMC – Authorities in HCMC handled 2,769 cases of smuggling, counterfeit goods, and trade fraud in September, collecting over VND1.09 trillion for the State budget, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
Of the total, 38 cases involved banned or smuggled goods, 2,725 were related to trade fraud, and six concerned counterfeit products.
Smuggling and trade fraud remain complex, with offenders using increasingly sophisticated methods and operating in organized networks. Most goods are transported by road from the southwestern border to HCMC, stored in suburban warehouses, and distributed to city markets.
Common items include gold, tobacco, narcotics, sugar, cosmetics, and electronics. At seaports, smugglers often misdeclare goods or exploit customs incentives, while at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, violations involve concealing or disguising goods in hand or checked luggage.
The HCMC Department of Industry and Trade said it would intensify inspections and strengthen coordination to curb violations through year-end.
