HCMC – HCMC has been recognized by UNESCO as a member of its Creative Cities Network in the field of film, becoming Vietnam’s and Southeast Asia’s first city to receive this distinction.
The announcement was made on October 31 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The recognition marks HCMC’s second UNESCO title, following its designation as a Global Learning City.
Joining the Creative Cities Network places HCMC among cities worldwide that have shown a strong commitment to using creativity as a driver for sustainable urban development. The title highlights international recognition of the city’s efforts to promote cultural industries, particularly film.
The inclusion is expected to help the city strengthen its global profile, attract investment, and foster partnerships with international experts and cities active in the creative film sector. It will also open opportunities for cooperation, knowledge exchange, and capacity-building programs to further develop the city’s creative and cultural industries.
