HCMC – HCMC has approved a national competition to select a design for a new Reunification Monument to be built in the Thu Thiem New Urban Area in Thu Thiem Ward.
The monument will cover 6,340 square meters near To Huu Street and reach a maximum height of seven stories. It will occupy a space designated as Zone F in the central park area of the Thu Thiem development, reported the local media.
City authorities said the monument will commemorate national reunification and honor the sacrifices of Vietnamese soldiers and citizens. It will also acknowledge international support during the country’s fight for national reunification.
The structure is intended to symbolize national pride and aspirations for peace and development. The design must be highly symbolic, modern, aesthetically compelling, and uniquely representative of HCMC. It should also create a visual landmark for the surrounding urban space.
Authorities added that the structure should fit well with the surrounding architecture and environment, using materials and a scale appropriate to the site. Designers are also required to include artistic lighting for night viewing and ensure the monument leaves an emotional impression on visitors.
The competition will be organized by the city’s Department of Culture and Sports and the Management Board of Industrial and Civil Engineering Construction and Investment Projects of HCMC. Design submissions must meet legal requirements and reflect themes of national unity and historical continuity.
Each jury member can nominate up to three entries. The top three designs will be displayed for public feedback at the Ho Chi Minh Museum of Fine Art for seven days.
Finalists will present and defend their proposals over three days. The final selection will be based on jury evaluations and public input, with the results submitted to the city government for approval.
