HCMC – The Government has approved the expansion of an oft-congested section of the HCMC–Long Thanh–Dau Giay Expressway as an emergency project to accelerate construction.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha endorsed the proposal from the Ministry of Finance and the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC), according to a statement from the Government Office. The project will be carried out under expedited procedures outlined in Document No. 6166/VPCP-CN, allowing it to bypass standard processes, reported the Government news website (baochinhphu.vn).

The 22-kilometer stretch will be expanded from the Beltway No. 2 interchange in former Thu Duc City (Km4+000) to the intersection with the Bien Hoa–Vung Tau Expressway in Dong Nai Province (Km25+920).

The elevated section from Beltway No. 2 to Beltway No. 3 (Km4+000 to Km8+44.5) will be widened by 7.75 meters on each side to accommodate eight lanes. The remaining section from Beltway No. 3 to the Bien Hoa–Vung Tau interchange (Km8+44.5 to Km25+920) will be expanded to 10 lanes.

The project is estimated to cost over VND15.3 trillion, including VND967 billion for site clearance and resettlement, VND11.1 trillion for construction, VND99 billion for equipment, and nearly VND2 trillion in contingency funds.

The Ministry of Finance and VEC will be responsible for ensuring the project’s progress, safety, and financial integrity. Construction is scheduled to begin on August 19 and is expected to be completed in 2026.
