HCMC – The Ben Thanh–Suoi Tien metro line has stopped selling paper QR tickets at four stations from September 15 as part of a trial to promote cashless payments.
According to HCMC Urban Railways No.1 Company Limited (HURC1), the Opera House, Ba Son, Van Thanh, and Phuoc Long stations will now be ticketed differently. Passengers are encouraged to buy tickets from vending machines, the HCMC Metro HURC app, or the Metro MiniApp on MoMo, a digital wallet platform.
Riders can also pay directly at ticket gates using bank cards, e-wallets, or chip-based ID cards. The operator has arranged staff at these stations to assist passengers during the transition period.
The initiative is aimed at reducing queues at ticket counters and encouraging passengers to switch to non-cash payments. Other stations on the line will continue offering both paper tickets and electronic payment options.
The Ben Thanh–Suoi Tien metro, HCMC’s first urban rail line, began operations in late 2024. Stretching nearly 20 kilometers, it has 14 stations, including three underground and 11 elevated.
