HCMC – HCMC is considering assigning Truong Hai Group (Thaco) to study building metro lines linking the city center with Long Thanh International Airport under a public-private partnership.
The HCMC Department of Construction has reported to the central Government on preparations for key urban railway projects in the city.
For the connection between Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh international airports, the HCMC People’s Committee is coordinating with Dong Nai Province to adjust the Thu Thiem–Long Thanh route. The plan would convert the project from a national railway to an urban rail line and add it to the transport master plans of both localities.
The People’s Councils of HCMC and Dong Nai are expected to review and agree on assigning HCMC as the agency to implement the project.
HCMC is also studying a plan to allow Thaco to survey and propose investment in the Ben Thanh–Thu Thiem and Thu Thiem–Long Thanh metro lines under a public-private partnership arrangement. The city aims to complete the projects by 2030.
Following Government instructions based on conclusions by Party General Secretary To Lam, HCMC and Dong Nai have been asked to accelerate preparations and move toward early construction of the Thu Thiem–Long Thanh metro line. Authorities have also been directed to advance the Suoi Tien–Dong Nai provincial administrative center–Long Thanh airport metro line.
In a proposal submitted to central authorities, HCMC suggested linking three rail projects—Ben Thanh–Tham Luong, Ben Thanh–Thu Thiem, and Thu Thiem–Long Thanh—to form a continuous metro corridor connecting Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh airports.
Under the proposal, passengers would travel from Tan Son Nhat on the Ben Thanh–Tham Luong line to Ben Thanh Station, transfer to the Ben Thanh–Thu Thiem line, and continue on the Thu Thiem–Long Thanh line to reach Long Thanh airport.
