HCMC – HCMC is developing a global product recall database to help retailers and regulators identify and block risky goods before they enter distribution systems.
The initiative is being built by the HCMC High-Tech Association in coordination with foreign consulates and multinational inspection firms, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
The platform is expected to allow retailers in the city to check products that have been recalled in major markets. This would help authorities and businesses screen goods at the import stage and reduce the risk of low-quality products circulating.
High-risk categories, including products for the elderly, children, and pregnant women, will be subject to stricter review.
A representative of the HCMC Department of Industry and Trade said linking to international recall data would improve market oversight as imports become more diverse. The move also aims to align consumer safety standards with global practices.
Separately, the city is expanding the “Green Tick Responsibility” program as a quality control tool across retail systems. The program tracks product records, including certification, packaging, origin, and testing results.
The system includes verification features to detect fraudulent documents. Blockchain and artificial intelligence are used to trace data, flag irregularities, and connect suppliers, testing units, and distributors.
Launched in June 2024, the program has attracted 12 major retail chains, including Saigon Co.op, AEON, Central Retail, MM Mega Market, Bach Hoa Xanh, WinCommerce, and Lotte Mart.
A total of 411 companies have joined the program, with more than 4,800 products meeting “Green Tick” standards and being distributed through retail systems in the city.
