HCMC police bust massive fake Covid antiviral trading ring

HCMC – The HCMC police have cracked down on a massive counterfeit Covid antiviral pill trading and producing ring, arresting seven people suspected of being involved and seizing some one million fake pills.

Among those arrested were Pham Ngoc Bich, who serves as director of Amtex Pharma Pharmaceutical Corporation located in Ben Luc District in the Mekong Delta province of Long An, the local media reported.

At 5:30 p.m. on June 9, the municipal police caught two suspects red-handed carrying 12 cartons containing 200,000 pills labeled as Neo – Codion on their car heading from Long An Province to HCMC, the Investigation Police Division on Economic, Corruption-related Crimes and Smuggling (PC03), under the HCMC Police Department, said on June 10.

Expanding the probe into the medicine trafficking ring, the police examined the medicine manufacturing and packaging plants in Ben Luc District and discovered several other locations storing fake antivirals in Long An and HCMC.

As a result, machines and nearly one million pills of fake medicine were confiscated.

Amtex Pharma was licensed for producing and trading all types of medicines several years ago, covering an area of 10,000 square meters.
