HCMC – Preparations for the high-altitude fireworks display at the Saigon River Tunnel entrance in An Khanh Ward are nearing completion as the city gears up to welcome the 2026 New Year.
On the morning of December 31, officers and technical personnel were seen working intensively at the high-altitude firing site near the Saigon River Tunnel, finalizing installation and safety checks ahead of the countdown celebrations.Around 150 personnel have been mobilized to handle installation, operation and safety procedures at the fireworks sites, with all work carried out in line with technical standards and the approved scheduleThe An Khanh site will feature 1,260 high-altitude fireworks shells, 60 low-altitude fireworks racks and 10 pyrotechnic racks. The total number of fireworks deployed at this location is estimated at around 2,500 unitsElectrical wiring and connections are being carried out with particular care to ensure absolute safetyThe launching tubes, made of metal, come in various diameters to match different types of fireworksAccording to a representative of the technical unit, the An Khanh firing site this year has been reinforced with a higher number of low-altitude fireworks compared to previous years. Notably, a special rack labeled No. 6, comprising 100 large-caliber shells, has been arranged as a highlight of the overall display
The program also features a system of paper-box racks with around 300 tubes, considered a technical focal point of this year’s performanceCompared with previous shows, this year’s fireworks are expected to deliver brighter and sharper color effects while significantly reducing smokeIn terms of visual design, familiar shapes such as hearts, Mickey Mouse figures, red chrysanthemums and blue chrysanthemums will return. New additions include rice stalks, laurel trees and rhododendrons—effects being used for the first time at this firing site. After technical connections are completed, the launching systems are covered with nylon sheets to protect them from rain
To better serve the public during the New Year’s Eve celebrations, the city will organize fireworks displays at six locations. Three high-altitude sites include the Saigon River Tunnel entrance in An Khanh Ward, the central area of the New City Center in Binh Duong Ward, and Tam Thang Square in Vung Tau Ward.
Three low-altitude fireworks sites include Dam Sen Cultural Park in Binh Thoi Ward, along with two additional locations at Saigon Marina IFC Tower in Sai Gon Ward and the Kim Long villa area near Rach Dia Bridge in Nha Be Commune.
The artistic fireworks displays in HCMC will last for 15 minutes, from 00:00 to 00:15 on January 1, 2026.
