HCMC – Remittances to HCMC are forecast to reach a record US$10.5 billion in all of 2025, according to the State Bank of Vietnam’s (SBV) Region 2 branch.

The city received US$7.94 billion in incoming remittances in the first nine months of 2025, up 6.3% from a year earlier. HCMC accounts for about 60% of all remittances to Vietnam.

Tran Thi Ngoc Lien, deputy director of the SBV Region 2 branch, said the forecast is based on current inflows and the seasonal rise usually seen toward the end of the year. The full-year figure would represent a 10.5% increase from 2024, she said.

She attributed the growth to stable domestic economic conditions and monetary policy that has kept interest rates steady while allowing exchange rates to adjust flexibly.

Asia remained the largest source of remittances to the southern metropolis as of the end of the third quarter, contributing more than 50% of the total. The Americas accounted for 30%, followed by Europe at 9%, Oceania at 8.4%, and Africa at 2%.

Remittances from Africa rose by more than 150% from a year earlier. Europe posted growth of 16.7%, Oceania 11%, and the Americas 10%.

Remittance inflows typically increase toward year-end, especially around the New Year and the Lunar New Year.

Looking ahead to 2026, HCMC expects remittance inflows to continue rising. The city is implementing measures to attract overseas Vietnamese capital for major projects, including a planned international financial center, a free trade zone, and large real estate developments.

Authorities have also approved a remittance mobilization plan through 2030, aimed at improving the use of overseas capital to support long-term economic growth.
