HCMC – The HCMC authorities have officially renamed two major bridges that span the Saigon River to the Thu Thiem new urban area. Thu Thiem 1 and Thu Thiem 2 bridges are now called Thu Thiem and Ba Son, respectively.
The nameplate unveiling ceremony took place today, June 14. The city People’s Council approved the new names of the two bridges in late 2022.
Thu Thiem Bridge connects Ngo Tat To and Nguyen Huu Canh streets in Binh Thanh District with Nguyen Co Thach street in the Thu Thiem new urban area in Thu Duc City. Ba Son Bridge starts from Ton Duc Thang street in District 1 and leads to the Thu Thiem new urban area in Thu Duc City.
Duong Anh Duc, vice chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee, said at the ceremony that Ba Son and Thu Thiem are of historical and cultural significance for the development of Saigon – HCMC.
The 1,250-meter Thu Thiem Bridge has six lanes for vehicles and comes with an investment cost of over VND1,000 billion. Ba Son Bridge, spanning over 1,400 meters with six lanes, has a total cost of VND3,100 billion.
