HCMC – Retail chains in HCMC have stepped up shipments of essential goods to central Vietnam as prolonged flooding continues to disrupt transport and goods supply.
Heavy rains and floods have cut off traffic in several central provinces, causing delays in the movement of consumer goods. In response, major supermarket chains and businesses in HCMC have activated their North–Central–South distribution networks to maintain supply to local stores and distribution points, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
Central Retail Vietnam said the severe weather has affected operations and transport routes in the central region of the country. However, the company is still able to supply food, especially vegetables and fruits, thanks to its network of distribution centers and stores.
Retailers are prioritizing local suppliers and nearby provinces to shorten transport distances and ensure fresh goods reach shelves on time.
MM Mega Market Vietnam reported that 10 trucks carrying fresh, frozen, and dry goods from Dalat to the central and northern regions are on standby, waiting for authorities to authorize movement once floodwaters recede. The company has also increased shipments from Moc Chau to central Vietnam.
Retail systems have raised their inventories of essential items at central warehouses by 20–30% and pledged to stabilize prices while preventing hoarding and stockpiling.
According to the HCMC Department of Industry and Trade, supplies of vegetables and fresh produce from southern Vietnam remain stable, with multiple plans in place to deliver goods to the central and northern regions. Local producers can meet rising demand for essential food items during the ongoing natural disasters.
The biggest challenge, the department said, is the severe disruption to transport networks due to landslides and flooding. To ensure deliveries reach affected areas, retailers are switching from large container trucks to smaller vehicles better suited for blocked or narrow routes in the central provinces.
