HCMC sets up inspection teams as Covid cases soar

HCMC – The HCMC government has established 19 teams responsible for inspecting Covid infection prevention and control activities, as well as economic recovery in the city.

The teams are led by leaders of the city and heads of departments and will inspect hospitals, healthcare centers, agencies, organizations and businesses from November 25 to 30. 

The forthcoming inspections are designed to help drive down new Covid infections and hospitalizations which have spiraled up in recent weeks, improve the capacity of the healthcare system, protect the health of the citizens, gradually help the economy recover, resume production and trade safely, and ensure social security for the residents. 

The teams will also help raise the awareness of Covid prevention and control among the local authorities, agencies, organizations and businesses.

The first team, led by HCMC Party Secretary Nguyen Van Nen, will inspect Thu Duc City.

The second team, led by HCMC Chairman Phan Van Mai, will inspect District 8.

Other leaders of the city and heads of departments will lead the 17 other teams to look into other districts. 

HCMC remains the country’s biggest Covid hotspot. As of November 23, the city had recorded 459,123 cases in the fourth wave of the pandemic, which began in late April. 

The city has recently detected around 1,000 new cases a day.
