HCMC – The HCMC Hospital for Tropical Diseases and the Cu Chi District Hospital will temporarily be converted into ones specializing in Covid-19 treatment, with a total capacity of 900 beds.
Deputy director of the HCMC Department of Health Tang Chi Thuong on June 9 sent an urgent dispatch to the hospitals and healthcare centers in the city to announce the conversion due to the complicated development of Covid-19.
Up to now, the hospitals under the municipal department have admitted over 500 Covid-19 patients, while the number of infections is expected to continue rising.
The conversion is part of the department’s plan to have 2,000 beds for Covid-19 patients during the current period and increase the capacity to 5,000 beds for the worst-case scenario, according to the department.
The HCMC Hospital for Tropical Diseases was told to map out a plan to convert the functions of its departments, rooms and units to provide 400 beds for Covid-19 treatment and transfer its inpatients to other hospitals.
The municipal Department of Health also tasked the hospital with offering training courses to its employees to ensure the safety of medical workers and patients, the local media reported.
Besides, the municipal department asked the Cu Chi District Hospital to prepare 500 beds. In addition, the hospital was told to review medical equipment, medicines and consumable supplies to promptly ask for supplementation.
Apart from asking it to work with the HCMC Hospital for Tropical Diseases to hold training courses for medical workers, the municipal department also urged the hospital to transfer its inpatients to the Cu Chi Regional General Hospital or discharge them if they make a full recovery.
