HCMC — HCMC on January 5 tested package delivery using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at the Saigon Hi-Tech Park, reported local media.
The pilot was organized by the city’s Department of Science and Technology, together with the Saigon Hi-Tech Park Management Board and technology, logistics and retail firms, including Saolatek, Real-time Robotics Vietnam and Di Dong Viet.
Two delivery flight scenarios were carried out to test autonomous operation and real-time monitoring.
In the first test, a UAV developed by Saolatek transported a package containing an iPhone 17 over a distance of about 200 meters within the test area.
In the second test, a UAV from Real-time Robotics Vietnam conducted a multi-point delivery mission along a route of more than 400 meters.
In both cases, the drones took off, flew and landed automatically along pre-programmed routes.
A representative of the city’s Department of Science and Technology said the trial aimed to assess new technologies while meeting requirements on safety, security, national defence and public order.
The flights were conducted under a permit issued by the Operations Department of the General Staff under the Ministry of National Defence. The permit is valid for 2026 and complies with current regulations on flight management, aviation safety and national security.
Organizers said the trial would help assess the use of UAVs in postal services, urban logistics and short-distance delivery.
The program will also evaluate the safety, stability and efficiency of drone technologies developed by domestic firms, as well as coordination between state agencies and businesses.
The results are expected to support proposals for policies, technical standards and mechanisms to expand drone delivery applications in the future.
