HCMC – HCMC will apply the ASEAN tourism standards to move toward sustainable tourism and better travel experiences, reported the local media.
At a conference titled “Launching ASEAN tourism standards” on May 31, Deputy Director of the HCMC Department of Tourism Bui Thi Ngoc Hieu said that the city will apply regulations on security, safety, hygiene and the environment in accordance with the ASEAN tourism standards in 2016-2025 for the city’s tourism sector.
The ASEAN Tourism Standards include criteria for energy use management and reduction, the sustainable use of natural resources and efficient waste treatment. If the standards are successfully applied in HCMC, the city will harmonize tourism development and reduce the negative impacts on the environment.
The set of standards is the backbone of enterprises in building tourism products and services, thereby creating a qualified tourism environment and building prestige for HCMC in its journey to become a reliable destination for tourists.
In the upcoming time, each tourism business in the city needs to actively build a roadmap to apply the ASEAN Tourism Standards.
According to Hieu, to adapt to the new development of the region and the world, it is necessary for the tourism establishments in HCMC and across the country to standardize their services, as this is a prerequisite to improving the quality of a tourist destination such as HCMC. Thus, learning and applying the ASEAN Tourism Standards are urgent solutions.
In January 2016, at the ASEAN Tourism Forum in the Philippines, ASEAN tourism ministers announced the ASEAN tourism development strategy by 2025. Member countries prepared a set of standards, including criteria and basic requirements for tourism products and services, to standardize the tourism sector in the region.
