HCMC – HCMC plans to build more compressed natural gas (CNG) stations at major commuter bus terminals to accommodate the growing demand of CNG-powered buses.
New stations will be constructed in District 8, at Nga Tu Ga Station, and at the new Mien Dong Coach Station, according to the city’s Department of Transport.
The city now has only three CNG stations with one in An Suong in Hoc Mon District, one at Vietnam National University HCMC in Thu Duc City, and one on Pho Quang Street in Tan Binh District. This limited CNG station system has made it hard to fuel the city’s 510 CNG-powered buses that operate on 18 routes.
As part of its efforts to reduce air pollution, the Department of Transport is prioritizing investment in low-emission vehicles, with a particular focus on expanding the CNG bus fleet.
HCMC currently has 138 bus routes with a total of 2,209 vehicles. Of these, 546 buses run on clean energy, including CNG and electric vehicles, while the remaining 1,663 still run on diesel oil.
