HCMC to have new inland container depot

HCMC – The minister of construction has signed a decision announcing the opening of the Cai Mep inland container depot (ICD) in HCMC, assigning Cai Mep International Logistics Joint Stock Company as the project investor and operator.

The Cai Mep ICD is located in Cai Mep Industrial Park in Tan Phuoc Ward, HCMC. The facility, invested by Cai Mep International Logistics Joint Stock Company, will provide cargo handling services and carry out import-export procedures in accordance with Government Decree No. 38/2017 and relevant investment and business registration certificates issued by competent authorities.

The company is responsible for exercising the rights and obligations of an inland port operator under Decree No. 38/2017 and related regulations. It must ensure that operations are conducted in line with approved purposes and investment phases, and comply with requirements on safety, security, fire prevention and environmental protection.

Relevant specialized State management agencies will perform regulatory oversight at the Cai Mep ICD in line with Decree No. 38/2017 and other applicable regulations. The minister of construction has assigned the Vietnam Maritime and Waterways Administration to inspect and supervise the ICD’s operations in accordance with prevailing rules.

The Cai Mep ICD is the first inland container depot in the Cai Mep–Thi Vai area. It can receive cargo transported by both road and sea.

The ICD covers 38.6 hectares and has a total berth length of 1,100 meters. It includes two transshipment berths capable of accommodating vessels of up to 25,000 DWT and 10 berths for barges of up to 5,000 DWT. The facility is designed to handle various types of cargo, including containers, bulk cargo and project cargo.

Equipped with more than 30 pieces of handling equipment, the ICD is capable of providing cargo loading and unloading services for container ships, container barges, bulk cargo vessels and project cargo, meeting demand for berth allocation and cargo throughput at the port.
