HCMC – HCMC has identified 10 metro and rail projects for priority investment following its merger with Binh Duong and Ba Ria-Vung Tau, according to the city’s Department of Construction.

The proposal, submitted to the Management Authority for Urban Railways of HCMC (MAUR), is designed to accelerate implementation through special mechanisms under Resolution 188. The expanded urban rail network is planned to cover 1,012 kilometers, with 582 km located in the area of the former HCMC, 305 km in the area of the former Binh Duong Province, and 125 km in the area of the former Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province.

From now until 2035, HCMC plans to prioritize Metro Line 2 (Ben Thanh–Tham Luong–Cu Chi and Ben Thanh–Thu Thiem), the extension of Metro Line 1 to the former Binh Chanh District, Metro Line 3 (Hiep Binh Phuoc–An Ha), Metro Line 4 (Dong Thanh–Tan Son Nhat Airport–Hiep Phuoc), and Metro Line 6 (Inner Ring Road). A 48-kilometer rail line from downtown HCMC to the former Can Gio District is also included.

In the former Binh Duong Province, Metro Line 1 (New Binh Duong City–Suoi Tien) and Metro Line 2 (Thu Dau Mot–HCMC) are part of the list. In the former Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, Metro Line 3 connecting Vung Tau–Ba Ria–Phu My, with a potential extension to Long Thanh Airport, has been proposed. The 48-kilometer Thu Thiem–Long Thanh rail link is also prioritized if HCMC is assigned as the lead agency.

Metro Line 2’s first section, the 11-km Ben Thanh–Tham Luong stretch, is scheduled to begin construction late this year. It will serve as a pilot project under the new policy framework. For the other projects, the city aims to complete land clearance and resettlement by 2027, start construction in 2027–2028, and finish by 2035.

Currently, Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh–Suoi Tien), nearly 20 km long, is the only urban rail line in service in HCMC.
