HCMC – Bus line No.109, which carries commuters between downtown HCMC and the Tan Son Nhat International Airport till late night, is expected to resume service after a Covid-induced suspension.

The HCMC Public Transport Management Center, under the HCMC Department of Transport, has invited transport operators to offer bids for operating the airport bus line.

The bus line, which is not subsidized by the city government, links the Saigon Bus station and the airport, with a travel time of 45 minutes per trip. There will be 110 trips operational on the route per day from 5:45 a.m to 11:40 p.m.

In April this year, the Transport Department had allowed two bus lines No.152 and No.72-1 to enter the airport’s domestic terminal to pick up and drop off passengers along lane B, instead of the international terminal only as before.

Subsidized bus line No.152 offers services between the Trung Son residential area and the airport, with 76 daily trips.

The non-subsidized bus line No.72-1 connects the airport and the Vung Tau coach station in neighboring Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, with 12 daily trips.

According to the city’s transport authority, the city offers bus services on 128 routes with a total fleet of 2,109 buses. Of them, the city subsidizes 91 routes.

In the first half of the year, the number of commuters on subsidized bus routes reached an estimated 30.8 million, down 20.5% against the year-ago figure and meeting 27.4% of this year’s target.
