HCMC – The iconic Ben Thanh Market in District 1, HCMC, will be upgraded while the surrounding landscape will be rejuvenated in mid-2024.
Procedures for the project may be finalized in the first half of the year.
The HCMC Department of Planning and Architecture is in the final stages of preparing a design proposal that involves bringing back the statues of historical figures to the area in front of the Ben Thanh Market, including Tran Nguyen Han and Quach Thi Trang, with a target completion date being April 30, 2025.
The Department of Transport is responsible for reviewing current traffic regulations, assessing the effects of the Ben Thanh underground metro station, and formulating a comprehensive traffic management plan for the area.
With landscape revitalization and market restoration efforts, the project aims to elevate the Ben Thanh Market’s status as a cultural landmark while enhancing accessibility and pedestrian flow in the heart of HCMC.
The revitalization of Ben Thanh is expected to have a significant impact on the city’s tourism sector, creating jobs and bolstering the local economy.
