HCMC – HCMC is racing against time to address long delays in its critical VND10-trillion flood control project, which is designed to protect inner-city areas from worsening tidal flooding.
With construction work started nearly a decade ago, the project is still in its first phase, with officials working to clear obstacles holding up progress.
Following a meeting with the Department of Planning and Investment and other agencies, Bui Xuan Cuong, vice chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee, directed local authorities to expedite the project to mitigate climate change impacts on the city.
The Department of Transportation will collaborate with the Department of Construction to secure permits for underground cable work and essential infrastructure installation at the Ben Nghe tide-control sluice, crucial steps for staying on schedule.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has been tasked with finalizing budget requirements, including machinery and equipment, for submission.
Meanwhile, the Department of Planning and Investment will evaluate sand sourcing proposals from Trung Nam BT Company and assist the investor in verifying project quantities and costs.
These tasks are expected to conclude by November 5, with a finalized personnel list for the project task force submitted to the Department of Home Affairs by November 15.
Cuong also instructed the Department of Planning and Investment to complete a feasibility study, adjust the investment plan as needed, and submit the updated report to the city’s government by November 10.
