HCMC – HCMC has collected over VND500 trillion in budget revenue this year, exceeding its target by 12% and accounting for 27% of the nation’s total, according to HCMC Party Secretary Nguyen Van Nen.
This milestone marks the first time the city’s annual budget revenue has surpassed the VND500-trillion mark. “It reflects the collective effort and contribution of HCMC to the nation’s development,” Nen said during the 34th session of the 11th HCMC Party Committee today, December 4.
Nen highlighted promising progress in two of the city’s main 2024 priorities: digital transformation and the implementation of Resolution 98/2023/QH15 on special mechanisms and policies for development of HCMC.
He also emphasized HCMC’s increased investment in cultural development, social welfare, education, healthcare, poverty reduction, and improving residents’ quality of life.
Despite these achievements, Nen pointed out several areas that need improvement. The city’s economic growth rate reached 7.2%, below the 8% target required to meet Resolution 98’s objectives.
He pointed to challenges in making strategic breakthroughs, disbursing public investment, and addressing critical issues such as traffic congestion, flooding, environmental pollution, social housing development, renovations of aging condo buildings, and makeshift houses along canals and rivers.
