HCMC – A 48-year-old man, who is linked to the Buddha Bar coronavirus cluster in HCMC, has recovered from Covid-19 and been released from a field hospital today, April 23.
He was the last Covid-19 case being discharged from Cu Chi Field Hospital in the city, confirmed Nguyen Thanh Dung, director of the hospital.
He, confirmed as Vietnam’s 206th Covid-19 patient, works as a chauffeur for the 124th case, a 52-year-old Brazilian man who had visited Buddha Bar in District 2.
After leaving the hospital, he will self-isolate at home for another 14 days, said the hospital leader.
Although there is no coronavirus patient left, the hospital still maintains operation. Health care workers at the hospital will self-quarantine for the 14-day period, receive further training on measures to prevent and control Covid-19 infection, and stay prepared for any new patient to come.
Since the hospital was put into service on February 10, it had received and placed in quarantine 560 people, with 34 Covid-19 patients and 108 suspected cases, the doctor said.
To date, only one critically ill Covid-19 patient, or the nation’s 91st case, remains under treatment in HCMC. The British patient has shown physical and cognitive improvement and is put on a ventilator and ECMO.
ECMO is a life support machine which allows patients’ lungs and hearts to improve and function properly.
The city has reported no fresh cases for the past 16 days. Further, 48 people are being quarantined at isolation centers across the city, while 45 others are being monitored after recovering from the disease.
As of 6 p.m. today, Vietnam has not reported any new Covid-19 infections, marking a full week in which the country’s total number of coronavirus cases was kept unchanged at 268. Of this, 44 are active cases and 224 others have been discharged from hospital.
