HCMC – Metro Line No. 1, connecting Ben Thanh Market and Suoi Tien Theme Park, will run 200 train trips daily during its final trial phase from December 13 to 21.
The 19-kilometer route is a significant milestone in the city’s efforts to ease traffic congestion and promote public transportation.
Nine trains will operate daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., with trips taking 29 minutes and 30 seconds. Trains will run every eight minutes during peak hours and every 12 minutes during off-peak hours.
On December 11, the Management Authority for Urban Railways of HCMC (MAUR) signed a taking over certificate (TOC) with contractors NJPT and Hitachi for rolling stock, tracks, and electrical systems. These assets have been handed over to the operator, HCMC Urban Railways No. 1 Company Limited (HURC1).
The VND43.7-trillion project includes 17 trains, each capable of carrying 930 passengers, with 147 seated and 783 standing. The line features three underground and 11 elevated stations, designed to facilitate urban mobility in the city.
To encourage public use, the city will fully subsidize ticket prices for the first 30 days of commercial operation.
Regular ticket prices range from VND6,000 to VND20,000 per trip, depending on the distance and payment method. Monthly passes will cost VND300,000 for general passengers and VND150,000 for students.
The final test phase marks a critical step toward the official launch of HCMC’s first metro line, expected to transform public transport and reduce road congestion in the city.
