HCMC – The consumer price index (CPI) in HCMC has inched up by 0.23% in July against the previous month, according to the city’s Statistics Office.
Among the 11 groups of consumer goods and services used to calculate the CPI, seven have marked up in price. The “other goods and services” group has experienced the most significant rise, while the “beverages and tobacco” category has seen the steepest decrease.
The “food and dining services” group has risen by 0.11% versus June, contributing three basis points to the overall CPI increase.
The prices of footwear, hats, and textiles have grown by 0.1%. The transportation group has had the most significant impact on the overall CPI, rising by 1.60% and adding 15 basis points to the index. This increase was primarily due to a 3.81% hike in gasoline prices following three price adjustments in July.
The “accommodation, utilities, and construction materials” category has dropped by 0.1%, mainly due to a 0.68% fall in running water prices and a 1.39% drop in electricity prices due to lower consumption.
The CPI in July rose 3.45% over the same month last year. For the first seven months of 2024, the average CPI has leapt by 3.29%.
Ten out of the 11 groups of consumer goods and services have seen price hikes, with the highest increases in medicine and healthcare services at 7.78%, followed by education at 7.48%.
